The second Transport and Climate Change (TCC) Week, which included the Climate Action in Mobility Conference (CAMC), highlighted the importance and need of a transformational change in the transport sector to limit global warming by developing climate-friendly solutions. It was hosted by GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in Berlin from 24 to 28 September 2018. This year’s event focused on digital mobility, new business models and innovative planning in the transport sector. Nearly 200 experts and officials from ministries, institutions and city authorities from 20 countries, many from developing and emerging economies, exchanged their experiences in shaping the transport sector and discussed how to achieve a paradigm shift in transport around the world. The TCC Week started with a series of workshops on various topics in the field of sustainable transport, initiating expert dialogues with colleagues from around the…

Hydrogen is not only a means of storing energy, but also a valuable resource that can fuel transportation vehicles and can be used in various production processes. As the pioneers in this area, both Hebei Province in China and the state of Brandenburg in Germany hope to develop their new energy economy by establishing a closer cooperation with each other in the hydrogen industry. From 11 to 14 September 2018, a delegation from the state of Brandenburg led by State Premier Dr. Dietmar Woidke visited Hebei Province and hosted the workshop “Hebei-Brandenburg Conference on Renewable Energies and Hydrogen” in the city of Zhangjiakou. Organized by Brandenburg Invest, the workshop offered a platform to present projects and companies working on sustainable energy in China, Germany and worldwide, as well as opportunities to explore potential bilateral cooperation between companies and institutes from both countries. In the opening remarks, Ms. Li Hong, Vice-Mayor…

In order to reduce emissions and to boost industrial upgrading in the transport sector, China Academy of Transport Science (CATS) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly organized the 2nd International Forum on Zero Emissions of Urban Transport from 28 to 29 May 2018 in Beijing. China has made great efforts to promote New Energy Buses (NEB). In 2017, China introduced more than 100,000 new buses, 93% of which were NEBs. In light of this dynamic development, experts in the sectors of public transport and NEVs reviewed the status quo and relevant subsidy policies during the workshop. The participants also exchanged suggestions on possible policies for the promotion of NEBs. The development of NEBs has reduced the emissions of greenhouse gases dramatically and relieved pressure on the urban environment. Li Cheng, Associate Research Fellow from CATS, illustrated that the promotion of NEBs saved more than 1.3 million tons of diesel…
